To extend the scope for farmers in the e-commerce domain, the government is facilitating collaboration between online grocery firm Bigbasket and federations of organic farmers for procurement of millets and spices.
"This link between the retail segment and the farming sector is a big step for us. It's a win-win situation for both, Bigbasket and the farmers," said agriculture minister C Krishna Byre Gowda on Thursday.
On Friday, two memoranda of understanding (MoUs) will be signed between Bigbasket and farmers' federations at Organic Millets - 2017, the threeday national fair that will be held at Palace Grounds in Bengaluru from Friday.
