Procurement from GeM made mandate for Govt depts

With the aim to bring in more transparency and streamlining the government procurement, sourcing of goods and services from government e-marketplace (GeM) has been made compulsory for all the central government departments and ministries. Government procurement has been estimated at Rs 10,000 crore a year.

Directorate General of Supplies and Disposals (DGS&D) which is under the Commerce Ministry last year launched the government e-marketplace (GeM) for online purchase of goods and services by various central government ministries and departments.
